Love Yourself This Valentine’s Day!

Self-Care is Self-Love

As adults, it’s hard to find time for ourselves because we are constantly just trying to make it all happen. And, well, throw in a pandemic and virtual schooling, and work from home, and you sure as heck don’t have any extra time now! But, with Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, we thought we should talk about self-love and the many forms it comes in, including self-care.  

Self-care is so important to your well-being.  It is a way to help you feel new, refreshed, and recharged.  Self-care is the act of taking care of your mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional wellbeing.  It can range from cooking yourself a nice dinner (or DoorDashing it..because let’s be honest it’s so much easier to have someone make and deliver delicious food to your doorstep and not have to clean up) to getting a facial or massage, painting, reading, catching up with a friend, or trying a new hobby.  Basically, self-care is anything that makes you happy and more relaxed. 

Self-love is also practicing patience and kindness with yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Some examples of self-love practices are talking positively to yourself or not comparing yourself to others.  Or, it can be accepting yourself and your body just the way you are and learning to love everything about you.  

If you book a massage, get Botox, or decide to get waxed, it is because those are things you can do to make yourself feel happy and better about yourself.  Choosing to do something that alters your outside appearance doesn’t mean you are “shallow” or not okay with what you look like. Think of it as a way to fill your tank back up when it’s running on “E” or to remind yourself that you are worth the time and investment.

Both self-love and self-care are important and needed to be happy with yourself and to feel fulfilled.  Self- care allows you to take a little extra time to yourself and do something that feeds your body and soul, and self-love helps you forgive and accept yourself and your body exactly as you are. 

Loving yourself starts with making yourself feel good doing the things that make you happy. Taking a little extra time to yourself sometimes can be hard to do when you’re caught up in the hustle and bustle of the crazy world…but it’s so worth it to do something for yourself that makes you feel better on the inside and outside.
